NHRC sittings in Guwahati, Shillong

SHILLONG, May 24 (PTI): Aimed at reaching far flung areas, the National Human Rights Commission will dispose off human rights cases in Meghalaya and Assam during its three-day camp sittings at Guwahati and Shillong.

The Commission, headed by Justice KG Balakrishnan, will hear and try to dispose off cases of child labour in coalmines, dead male foetus found in several parts in the Meghalaya, deaths in police firing, torture of labourers besides others, official said here.

The Commission will also sensitize the State governments on the importance of human rights issues and compliance of NHRC recommendations by them, officials said.
