NHPC talks with mega dam protestors today

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Feb 12 The protestors of the mega dams would sit for a discussion with the NHPC authorities tomorrow at 9.30 am in Guwahati.

In a statement, the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), said that the NHPC authorities offered to hold discussion due to the ongoing protest against the Lower Subansiri hydro-electricity project by various organizations and the common people of Dhemaji and Lakhimpur.

In another statement, the KMSS said that the organisations protesting the mega dams would hold a joint convention on the bank of Lower Subansiri in Sauldhowa of Lakhimpur on February 23, which would be joined by social activist Medha Patkar.

It may be mentioned that the KMSS and other organisations opposing the mega dams in Arunachal Pradesh have already had one round of discussion with the State goverment on this contentious issue.

The talks were not conclusive, and the organisations spearheading the anti-dam protests have resolved to carry on with their agitations till work on the mega dam structures are put on hold.
