TURA, Oct 8 - National Highways 62 and 51 are set to get a complete facelift, according to MoRTH.
Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) in reply to a question posed by Achik Indigenous Justice Initiative Forum (AIJIF), stated that the DPR for NH 62 was being worked out while the repair of NH 51 from Tura to Dalu would begin this season.
AIJIF had earlier written to the PM on the pitiable condition of the two highways and sought his intervention into the matter which was forwarded to National Highways Infrastructure Development Company Limited (NHIDCL).
In the letter sent, the NHIDCL explained that the NH 51 was earlier under PWD (Roads) and the same was taken over only in September this year.
The civil work contract for development of NH 51 to two-lane standard has been awarded under EPC mode of execution under JICA ODA loan and process for declaration of appointed date has been initiated and work for two-laning is likely to be started soon. The maintenance of the highway is the responsibility of the EPC contractor up to the defect liability period, stated a letter to AIJIF by NHIDCL.
On the question of the NH 62, the NHIDCL letter read, NHIDCL is preparing DPR for developing the highway into two-lane shoulder. Presently, the highway is being maintained by State PWD, Meghalaya.
