NH-37 in deplorable state

By CORRESPONDENT

DOOMDOOMA, March 17 - The condition of National Highway-37 from Tinsukia to Talap has become so deplorable that it has become very difficult for commuters to navigate this stretch.

Due to lack of proper maintenance and repair for a long period, the stretch under reference is dotted with crater-sized potholes all along, giving commuters who dare to take the vital surface communication link in their stride, a bone-jarring ride.

Virtually a dirt track during dry weather, the crater-sized potholes turn into slushy ponds even with a mild shower, thereby giving vehicular traffic a nightmarish experience. The condition of the road at Borhapjan is such that drivers have to think twice before navigating the stretch. Road mishaps too are a frequent occurrance on this road, primarily due to its dismal condition.

The haggard commuters have therefore urged the concerned authority to take immediate measures to repair this stretch of National Highway-37. Otherwise, traffic movement will virtually become impossible during the ensuing monsoon season.

ANN Service from Chabua adds: The National Highway-37 from Panitola to Dikom is no longer traffic worthy.

Akin to a Maritan landscape during sunny weather, the road is dotted with potholes of various shapes and size all along. It has lately become rather impossible for big or small vehicles, even two-wheelers, to cross this stretch without suffering a mechanical breakdown, not to mention a nerve-wracking experience.

The road is in a very poor condition in several places within Chabua town itself.
