LAWNGTLAI (MIZORAM), Nov 30 - Supply Reduction Service (SRS), the anti-narcotics squad constituted by Central Committee of YMA said it has seized heroin and related substances worth over Rs 15 lakh during November.
According to SRS, heroin was the most rampantly abused drugs in and around Aizawl city. The contraband was largely smuggled from neighbouring Myanmar via Zokhawthar.
Since its inception, SRS has arrested 1,035 people in connection with drugs abuse. While 50 people were handed over to Excise department, 24 were handed over to police. Besiddes, 39 others were sent to de-addiction centre or home for counseling.
It has been reported that the number of drug abusers among teenagers have increased alarmingly. SRS said misuse of drugs was rampant every where in the State.
