TURA, June 30 - Garo Students Union (GSU) today strongly condemned and opposed the move of the executive committee of Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) for the appointment of two non-Garo MDCs to handle various portfolios in the Council.
�We strongly oppose portfolios being given to the non- Garo MDCs in GHADC. Autonomous District Councils exist for the interests of the tribal people, and for the protection of our right, culture, tradition, land. Hence only the tribal people should have the rights to enjoy the benefits as is given under Sixth Schedule of Indian Constitution,� said GSU additional general secretary Balrang Ch Momin, in a release today.
The NGO opposed the allotment of portfolios to SG Esmatur Mominin of Shyamnagar constituency and Sofior Rahman of Balachanda, who were given the portfolios of chairman, planning sub-committee and Chairman, Bakijai sub-committee respectively.
