NFR, Sunrise play draw in clumsy tie

By Sports reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 4 - It was apparently a clumsy encounter in the RG Baruah Super Division Football League between NF Railway Sports Club and Sunrise Athletic Club at the Nehru Stadium here today as the drawn match witnessed as many as six bookings and two marching orders.

No team could score in the match and shared one point each. Players of both the teams used muscles time and again which lowered the standard of the meet. The referee also hardly could keep control on the players from the initial stage and as a result the players started keeping pressure on him.

The Guwahati Sports Association and the Guwahati Referees Association should take the matter seriously as untoward situations have been a regular feature in the championship so far in this season.

However, it was a lack-lustre encounter which was marginally dominated by the NFR boys.

In the first session no team could initiate any positive move but in the second session railway frontliners Jelendra Brahma, Sibra Narzary and Chayaram Basumatary put up a spirited show in the Sunrises striking zone. Sibra and Jelendra in particular came very close of scoring but their efforts went in vain due to poor shots at goal.

Francish Okechukwu of Sunrise and Chayaram Basumatary of railway were sent out in the 59th and 78th minutes respectively for booking twice.

SAI edge past City Police: In the A Division league for the Jibeswar Goswami Trophy, Sports Authority of India (SAI) Sports Club downed City Police by the barest of margin on the second ground of the Nehru Stadium.

Dwijoraj Boro scored the all important goal in the 73rd minute.

Today's matches: Ganga SC vs FCI SC (Super Division); Maharana vs AP Blues (A Division).
