NFR prepares new projects to improve connectivity

DIPHU, March 7 - In a bid to improve connectivity in the Tier-II and Tier-III towns, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has prepared new projects. Under the projects, the NFR will construct new railway tracks connecting Karbi Anglong, Sivasagar and Golaghat.

A highly-placed official source informed that several new railway tracks will be laid that will improve surface communication system in these districts.

While sharing more information about the new projects with this correspondent, the official who did not wish to be named, said that a new railway track would be laid connecting Salona and Khumtai in Golaghat district. �This new railway line will pass through Angjokhaspani, Dolamara, Ka kojan, Socheng Dhenta and Duarbagori.

It is learnt that Dilip Kalita, a senior officer of the NFR, Lumding division, has visited the areas for conducting a survey. According to him, a new railway station will be set up at Dolamara near Kaziranga National Park. The source, however, said that land acquisition has remained a major hurdle for which the NFR has already approached the authorities concerned.

�For the Kaziranga National Park, we will have to take extra precautionary measures so that flora and fauna of the famous park is not affected,� he said.

In this context, the source revealed that a new railway grouping between Sivasagar and Jorhat and another rail link between Silghat and Tezpur, over the Brahmaputra through Koliabhomora Bridge is on the anvil.
