NFR heading for mammoth total

By Sports reporter

GUWAHATI, April 28 NF Railway Sports Association amassed 355 for five in their first innings on the opening day of the two-day league match of Elite Group senior inter district cricket championship against Silchar at Nehru Stadium here today.

Electing to use the track first in the last league match of the championship group, the Railway batsmen sent Silchar on leather hunt keeping momentum of the scoreboard from the word go.

However, the match is of academic interest only as both the teams have already through to the final scheduled to be held from May 1 to 4.

Although they lost their opener Chandan Rawat (9) cheaply, other batsmen were in nice form and punished the Silchar bowlers all round the wicket.

Tarjinder Singh scored 135 off 193 balls while Sib Sankar Roy (54), Manoj Malo (50), Parvez Aziz (43), Sarupam Purkayastha (34 batting) were also among runs. Helpless Silchar bowlers had nothing to do on the perfect batting track. Particularly the spinners were punished severely.

For Silchar, Samik Das and Kaushik Giri took two wickets each while Pritam Das bagged one.

Brief scores: NF Railway 1st innings 355/5 (Tarjinder Singh 135, Sib Sankar Roy 54, Manoj Malo 50, Parvez Aziz 43, Sarupam Purkayastha 34 n.o, Samik Das 2/32, Kaushik Giri 2/92).
