NFR continues tunnel work

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 18 The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) Construction Organisation has completed work on the Tunnel No 7 in the Jiribam-Tupul-Imphal new BG rail line project. Work on the tunnel, with a length of 1,929 metre, was done from both ends despite the land strata being poor, said NFR (Construction) Senior PRO DC Borah. The tunnel passes 25 metre underneath the National Highway 37 at Imphal end. With this NFR has completed nine of the tunnels in this section. The Indian Railways plans to complete at least another 11 tunnels, out of the total of 34 proposed in the section, during the current financial year between Jiribam-Tupul. So far, about 25 km out of 39.4 km tunnelling work has been completed between Jiribam and Tupul since 2011-12.
