NF Rly to launch cleanliness drive tomorrow

GUWAHATI, Sept 30 � Assam-headquartered Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) will undertake a major cleanliness drive across all train stations and other railway infrastructure across the State and other parts of the North East as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission to be launched on October 2.

�To realise Mahatma Gandhi�s dream of a �Clean India� by his 150th birth anniversary on October 2, 2019, the Prime Minister has called for a mass movement christened �Swachh Bharat Mission�. The NF Railway will contribute towards this mission by launching the campaign on October 2 next and during the next five years, regular events on cleanliness would be organised,� said an official statement.

During this period, it will be ensured that all stations, tracks, railway colonies and offices are maintained in a clean and hygienic condition with special emphasis on toilets in the railway stations.

The campaign will include tree plantation, removal of encroachments, maintaining clean toilets, clearing posters from walls, repairing street lights, improving drainage, improving signage, whitewashing of buildings etc.

�A detailed action plan for the special cleanliness drive has already been prepared and all the stations of NFR would be covered by this drive. As a part of the plan, the station masters of these stations have been empowered to undertake cleanliness exercise and additional funds have also been sanctioned for maintaining cleanliness,� the statement said.

All officers and staff, including senior officers like the General Manager, Additional General Manager and Divisional Railway Managers will physically participate in cleaning stations and colonies as a part of the universal shramdaan exercise on October 2, it added.
