Guwahati, Sept 1 (PTI): The Northeast Frontier Railway has started using the Internet and mobile phone technology GSM-based system for running water pumps to save power and also distributed energy saving bulbs among its employees.
The pumps have been attached with a GSM based unit and these could be switched on or off through the internet from any part of the world either directly or on a scheduled programme, NF Railway officials said today.
If the system is scheduled to run a pump for an hour, and, due to some reason, the water supply goes off in the middle of it, the pump will automatically run for the remaining time of schedule whenever the supply is restored.
