NF Railway regain I-D cricket title

GUWAHATI, May 4 � NF Railway Sports Association regained the Nuruddin Ahmed Trophy emerging champions in the Elite Group senior inter district tournament.

The Railwaymen clinched the title by virtue of their 79-run first innings lead against Silchar as the four-day summit clash at the Nehru Stadium here today ended in a draw.

NF Railway completed their second innings at 339 and requiring an imposing 419 for victory in the second innings Silchar were 129 for two when the match was called off by umpires Nasir Gul Khan and Bhabani Tasa with consent of both the captains.

NF Railway resumed their second innings at the overnight total of 218 for four and were all out for 339 in 96.4 overs. All rounder Mrigen Talukdar smashed a 53-ball 48 with five towering sixers and a four. Lower order batsmen Krishanu Mazumdar (26) and Arup Das (19) also offered contribution in building their innings.

Left arm spinner Abhoy Yadav was the most successful Silchar bowler with a five wicket haul while Kaushik Giri removed two NFR scalps.

Silchar batted cautiously in their second innings and successfully saved the match. Raju Das and Kaushik Giri remained unbeaten with 50 and 42 respectively when the umpires picked up the bails after 48 overs. Sekharjyoti Barman and Sib Sankar Roy took one wicket each for Railway.

In the closing function, Assam cricket Association secretary Bikash Baruah, treasurer Hganashyam Baruah, ACA senior selection committee chairman Bimal Bharali, observer Pranab Baruah, ACA governing body member Hiranya Saikia, ACA umpires committee chairman Md Khaleque were present in the closing function and gave away the prizes to the teams and individual players and officials.
