GUWAHATI, May 3 � With an overall 297-run lead, NF Railway Sports Association is sitting pretty against Silchar in the final of the Nuruddin Trophy Elite group senior inter district cricket championship.
On the penultimate day of the four-day match at the Nehru Stadium here today, NF Railway were 218 for four in their second innings after taking a first innings lead of 79 runs.
Silchar, resuming their first innings at 166 for five, dragged their total to 270. Samik Das, who was batting on 36 yesterday, top scored with 64. But his overnight partner Rajdeep Das could add just three runs to his yesterday�s total of 44. Tailenders Pritam Das (15), Kaushik Giri (21), Abhoy Yadav (17) also offered some useful contributions for Silchar.
Spinner Sarupam Purkayastha came out with a five-wicket haul while Sekharjyoti Barman and Arup Das took three and two wickets respectively.
In NF Railway�s second innings, opener Chandan Rawat (76) and middle order Tarjinder Singh (82) dazzled with their bats which enabled their team to score a commendable second innings total. They also added 124 runs for the third wicket partnership in 107 minutes. Tarjinder�s 116-ball knock was studded with 10 boundaries and one six while Chandan took 122 balls and cracked nine fours. For Silchar, Pritam Das, Samik Das, Abhoy Yadav and Kaushik Giri took one wicket each.
