NF Railway felicitates medal winners

GUWAHATI, May 30 � The NF Railway Sports Association (NFRSA) today felicitated their sportspersons in a function held at the indoor stadium, Maligaon who brought laurels to the organisation from the international, national and State arenas.

This season the NFRSA sportspersons had remarkable performances in several events. Their football and basketball teams became champions in the all India railway championships. Apart from that the NFR table tennis team won the All India Railway TT Championship for two consecutive years.

Some individual NFR players like body-builder A Boby Singh, powerlifters Vandana Dubey, Nikhil Dihingia, TT player Takeme Sarkar, badminton player Kaberi Phukan, archer Dhaniram Basumatary, weightlifter Renubala Chanu, boxers Bhagyabati Kachari, Kalpana Choudhury, Rumi Gogoi, Jahnabi Gogoi, cyclists Y Sunita Devi, H Dinita Devi, cricketer Ranjit Mali, footballers Jelendra Brahma, Sibra Narzary, Chayaram Basumatary, Rajib Boro, Y Raju Singh won medals in different national and international events.

This year the Indian Railway football team, which became runners up in the Santosh Trophy, held at Siliguri, was consisting of five NF Railway players.

The performing players were honoured with gifts and cash awards.

NFR General Manager RS Virdi, GM Construction RK Singh, NFRSA president Mukul Marwa along with host of officials were present on the occasion.

NFRSA AGM: The NFRSA held its annual general meeting today where serious discussions took place for the development of sports. The organisation has proposed to set up a judo academy. The NFRSA has already started academies of events like football, cricket, chess, archery, tennis etc.

Mukul Marwa has been retained as the president of the organisation while Sugato Lahiri, chief PRO became the new general secretary.
