NF Railway bag all India soccer title

GUWAHATI, March 3 � NF Railway won their maiden title in the All India Inter Railway Football Championship.

In the final of the 54th edition of the championship today, NF Railway edged past South Eastern Railway 2-1 in a close match at Baneras. Susanka Chanda and Sipra Narzary netted one goal each, informed NF Railway sources.

Earlier, NF Railway qualified for the knockout stage from the group league phase held at Patna. In the opening match, NF railway played a goalless draw against Eastern Railway while in the second match, they beat East Cost Railway 1-0. In the third group league match, NF Railway again played a goalless draw against IRCON but in the final group league encounter they outplayed North West railway 4-0. NF railway became second team in the group and earned a ticket for the knockout stage held at Baneras.

In the quarterfinal, NF Railway trounced Central Railway 2-0 and the goal scorers were Susanka Chanda and Sipra Narzary. The Guwahati boys earned a convincing 2-0 victory against Diesel Locomotive Works in the semifinal riding on goals by Jilendra Brahma and Susanta Mazumdar. NF Railway has recruited six footballers before the all India championship.
