Newborn dies at Dhubri relief camp

GOLAKGANJ, July 30 � A newborn baby died at a relief camp at Supari Ghat-Tilapara ME School campus in Dhubri within about 2 hours of his birth on Monday morning due to alleged negligence of doctors.

As no doctors attended on the woman, she with the help of local women gave birth to a male child. The condition of both the mother and child started to worsen immediately after delivery. �No doctors in the relief camp attended on them. It was the first child of the couple,� Nayan Khan, a local guardian of the victim said here.The unfortunate parents are Jamal Khan (38) and Samiya Bibi (25).They are residents of Tanijhani village under Gossaigaon Police Station in Kokrajhar district. Jamal Khan is a cultivator and provides the family from earnings of his cultivation.

Dr Ramen Choudhury,Joint Director of Dhubri Health Department, said, �The newborn baby died outside the relief camp. After receiving the information, a doctors� team was immediately sent to the spot. The parents or any local people did not inform the matter to the District Health Department. Samiya Bibi has now been admitted in Gauripur Community Health Centre for better treatment.�

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi visited two relief camps at Nayahat LP School and Nama Shudra Para LP School under Bilasipara subdivision at around 11 am today. The CM directed the district officials to perform their duty on a war footing so that each and every person who is taking shelter in different camps get relief accordingly.
