By Correspondent

MORIGAON, Jan 1 - Hundreds of New Year revellers today thronged the famous Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary in Morigaon district to take a glimpse of one horned rhinos and other animals.

It is also learnt that tourists from England, Switzerland and outside the State have started pouring in. Considering the size of tourist flow this year, the State Government is likely to garner more revenues. The sanctuary, which has an area of 46 sq. km, is home to rhinos, wild buffaloes, wild deer and different species of snakes and tortoise.

However, despite strict norms, the picnic parties were seen using loudspeakers today. Worried over the situation several leading organisations today urged the authorities concerned to prohibit loudspeakers and picnic in the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary for the safety of the animals. We need pro-active steps from the State Government side to ban polythene bags and loudspeakers, the leaders of the organisations said.

Another important aspect is that tourism infrastructure has received a shot in the arm in the vicinity with the flow of tourist that also helped the youths to run various business.
