New train service from today

By STAFF Reporter

GUWAHATI, Jan 3 The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) will start passenger service in the recently converted Rangiya-Rangapara North-Dekargaon section from tomorrow, thus fulfilling a long-standing demand of people from areas falling on the northern bank of the Brahmaputra.

NFR PRO Nripen Bhattacharya told The Assam Tribune today that there will be 17 stations in the section.

The new service comes following completion of the gauge conversion project in the section which took around two years. The meter gauge services in the section had been halted before the project was taken up. A total of 144.48 km of tracks were converted to broad gauge, Bhattacharya said.

The first train in the new section will start from tomorrow.
