New strategy to check rhino poaching

NALBARI, Jan 5 � In order to boost the morale of the forest personnel engaged in checking rhino poaching, especially during Bihu, the Forest Department has decided to supply Bihu delicacies in each forest camp inside the national parks like Kaziranga and Manas.

This was disclosed by Minister of Forest Rockybul Hussain while talking to mediapersons at Mukalmua in Nalbari district here today. He had come to attend a series of public meetings in Mukalmua area.

The Minister said that during Bihu rhino poachers could become more active inside the parks. Hence the forest personnel entrusted with security job in the national parks would have to be extra careful. He added that for security of the Manas National Park two officials of the State administrative service and two more companies of forest protection guard have been engaged.

Hussain also announced Rs 4 crore for Nalbari district under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) Scheme. Addressing a meeting at Barkshetri, the Minister added that he has directed the Nalbari Deputy Commissioner to gear up the rural development activities in the district.

The Minister also said that the district is likely to get about Rs 20 crore this year as against the Rs 10 crore it had received last year under the MGNREGA. He also distributed financial assistance and CI sheets among many poor families under the Chief Minister�s special schemes. He also took part in a review meeting held at the block auditorium, where he instructed the panchayat representatives to follow the proper guidelines of rural developmental works.
