SONARI, April 6 � Runu Handique and Utpal Gogoi were declared as chairman and vice chairman respectively of the Sonari Municipal Board through the process of lottery on Sunday.
Earlier, secret voting was held where Runu Handique (Congress) and Pranita Panging (BJP) got eight votes each for the post of chairman, while Utpal Gogoi (Congress) and Girin Gogoi (BJP) too got eight votes each for the post of vice chairman.
Sarat Borkataky, Education Minister and local MLA, and Kamakhya Tasa, MP, Jorhat were present on the occasion.
Both the Congress and the BJP have eight ward commissioners each in the civic body and as such, the concerned citizens have raised questions on the stability of the newly elected body.
