New photography academy inaugurated in Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH, Aug 23 - The tea city here got itself adorned with a first of its kind career oriented academy of photography, much to the delight of several photograph enthusiasts of the region.

Nestled at the edge of a lush tea plantation, the Tea City Photography Academy, as it has been named, is located at East Banipur near here. The academy had a ceremonious opening on the occasion of the World Photography Day.

Dr Sashi Kanta Saikia, Principal of DHS Kanoi College formally inaugurated the Photography Academy in the presence of several educationists, distinguished photographers, medical practitioners, mediapersons, wild life lovers and local public.

Some of the distinguished guests included veteran media person Ikbal Ahmed, Managing Director of Aditya Diagnostics & Hospitals Dr Nirmal Kumar Sahewalla, Nature�s Beckon Director Soumyadeep Dutta and educationist Kalpana Khound.

The Tea City Photography Academy is a unit of Upasana Kalakendra, a registered society under Societies Act of 1860. The academy, which has enrolled government officials and college lecturers among some thirty students for the current year will be imparting both long-term and short-term courses, including crash courses in digital photography and graphic designing. The academy is well equipped with studio with lighting facility for still and video, DSLR cameras, video cameras, editing studio, exhibition hall, auditorium, mini library, internet facility and a cafeteria.

Ace photographer Debasis Gogoi, who is the principal of the Academy, said that he would later seek to expand the academy into a full-fledged mass communication institute.
