IMPHAL, Aug 19 - Former Vice Chancellor of Tezpur University Prof MK Choudhury has been named as a member of the two-member enquiry committee to probe the allegations levelled against Manipur University Vice Chancellor Prof Adya Prasad Pandey relating to administrative and financial irregularities.
Former Acting Chief justice of High Court of Meghalaya T Nandakumar Singh will lead the enquiry.
Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry had issued an order in this regard on August 17, a day after the Manipur University community, HRD and Manipur Government signed an Agreement at the end of the three-day meeting on Thursday.
The meeting was attended by representatives of Manipur University Students� Union (MUSU), Manipur University Staff Association and Manipur University Teachers� Association on one side and GC Hosur, joint secretary, HRD, on the other, in the presence of Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
The enquiry committee shall submit its report within one month from the date of issue of the order.
Earlier, HRD Ministry had constituted a three member committee. However, the inclusion of two UGC members was strongly objected by the varsity community claiming that the two officials were close acquaintances of Pandey.
MUSU had launched an indefinite shutdown on May 30, which paralysed the functioning of more than 80 colleges affiliated with the varsity for over two months, demanding ouster of Pandey.
However, order of the HRD Ministry has evoked sharp reaction from the Manipur University community. After holding a joint meeting here on Saturday, they said the HRD Ministry order has failed to honour the terms/points included in the MoA signed on August 16. �We also feel that this amounts to insulting all of us including the Chief Minister of Manipur,� a press note said.
