JORHAT, Sept 21 - Jayanta Borkakati, Ward Commissioner of Ward No. 11 of Jorhat Municipal Board today assumed charge as the new Chairman of Jorhat Municipal Board.
Though his name was announced by the Bharatiya Janata Party�s State leadership on August 31, Borkakati could not take charge as nine out of 12 BJP ward commissioners had refused to accept him as the Chairman of Jorhat Municipal Board.
It may be recalled that the post fell vacant after former Chairperson Aruna Dutta, (member from Ward No. 1) resigned on August 3. The JMB, having 19 wards, is run by the BJP, having 12 ward members, and the rest by the Congress.
