New head of Don Bosco Society

GUWAHATI, May 17 � The Salesian Province of Guwahati would see a change of guard as Rev Fr VM Thomas, SDB takes over as the new Provincial from Rev Fr Joe Almeida, sdb, who relinquishes office on May 20, a press release received here said.

A versatile personality, Fr Thomas brings along with him a wealth of experience having served in a plethora of august posts such as headmaster (Principal) of Don Bosco School, Panbazar, Guwahati (1982-1990), national general secretary of Catholic schools, board member of several states and national institutions and committees, founder director of Don Bosco Institute (BDI), Joypur, Kharghuli, which incidentally completes two decades of excellence this year and now as chairman, Don Bosco Society with a responsibility of 35 Don Bosco institutions in Assam and Meghalaya, including the position as Chancellor of Assam Don Bosco University, Azara.

The installation ceremony and prayer will be presided over by most Rev Thomas Menamparampil, sdb, Archbishop Emeritus, Guwahati and concelebrated by Rev Fr Maria Arokiam Kanaga, sdb, Salesian Regional Superior, South Asia, and other priests in the presence of members of the Salesian family at the Don Bosco Provincial House, Guwahati on May 20. In an emotional address to all the staff and students of DBI on Tuesday, Fr Thomas thanked each and every individual for their extraordinary support and encouragement in helping him realise his dream of Don Bosco Institute into a reality.
