HAFLONG, July 5 RK Singh, General Manager (Construction) of North East Frontier Railway inaugurated the newly constructed New Haflong Railway Station building about 6 kms from Haflong, the district headquarter of Dima Hasao district in the presence of Ajit Pandit, Chief Engineer, and a host of railway officials and representatives of construction companies on Friday.

Singh reached the New Haflong Railway Station by riding a trolley from Mahur station through the newly constructed Dayang bridge, which is considered to be the longest and highest bridge in this hills section of NF Railway.

It may be mentioned here that the NF Railway had set March 31, 2015 as the target for completion of conversion work of the Lumding-Silchar metregauge to broadgauge line after repeated changing of the target date during the past. The project started in 1996-97 and from 2006 it was declared as a national project. The people of Barak Valley and Dima Hasao had been demanding early completion of the project as the people of this area had been suffering a lot since quite a long time due to unwarranted delay in completion of the ongoing project.

The inauguration of the New Haflong Railway Station has obviously brought a ray of hope in the minds of the concerned people, though there is speculation that the NF Railway would face a tough task to complete the project on time.

Talking to mediapersons here, Singh assured that they would leave no stone unturned to complete the Lumding -Silchar broadgauge conversion project on time. The mega block will start from October 1 next for six months and completion of the project will be as per target.

Significantly, Singh lauded the consistent hard work put in by the workers round the clock even under adverse circumstances in order to meet the deadline.
