New guideline for school buses

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, June 28 The Regional Transport Authority and the Kamrup Metro District Transport Officer have worked out a policy in the matter of granting of new permits/licences to school buses.

An official release said that the authorities would consider only smaller buses with a maximum capacity of 35 seats to be run as school buses. The decision has been taken in view of the traffic congestions and narrow roads of the city and it is expected that the move would save valuable time for the schoolchildren.

The decision has been taken keeping in mind several factors such as safety and security for the children, monitoring and convenience and easy transportation, the release said, adding that the Regional Transport Authority would consider the applications for only those 40-or-more-seater buses that had been purchased prior to June 1, 2010.
