New e-learning lab opened at Dibrugarh University

DIBRUGARH, May 19 - An e-learning laboratory equipped with state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment and editing facilities to cater to producing, delivering and enhancing online pedagogy is now operational at the Directorate of Open and Distance Learning, Dibrugarh University.

The e-learning laboratory is a collaborative venture of the Dibrugarh University and Oil India Limited under its corporate social responsibility scheme. The prime objective of the joint effort is to develop the learners� interest in the latest educational technology and equip them with proper skills through an online learning mode.

The laboratory was inaugurated on May 13 by the Vice Chancellor of Dibrugarh University, Prof Ranjit Tamuli, in the presence of Resident Chief Executive of OIL, Pranjit Deka, a press release stated.

Dr Deba Pallav Rajkhowa, Director, Directorate of Open and Distance Learning, Dibrugarh University, who delivered the welcome speech, stressed the need of providing online pedagogical model in flexible, self-directed study and experiential learning through structured modules to enable leaner autonomy.

Vice Chancellor Prof Ranjit Tamuli underlined the importance of e-learning in the contemporary time and appreciated the contribution of Oil India Limited in promoting the digital initiative of the Government of India. He also spoke on the importance of traditional and conventional methods of education in sync with online education.

Two demo video lectures were also released on the occasion for showcasing the output of the e-learning laboratory. The first demo video lecture was prepared by Prof Nasim Wazid Ali, retired teacher of DHSK College, Dibrugarh, on income tax and the second demo lecture was made by Dr Rizwan Rehman, assistant professor, Centre for Computer Science and Applications, Dibrugarh University, on java programming. The video lectures received a positive response from the audience.

Dr Hari Chandra Mahanta, Registrar of Dibrugarh University, and Dilip Kumar Bhuyan, General Manager (Pubic Affairs), Oil India Limited, also spoke during the inaugural ceremony. The vote of thanks was delivered on behalf of the Directorate by Dr Mithun Jagadish Sharma, Assistant Director (Academic).
