SHILLONG, July 31 - As a temporary arrangement, the Home Department today appointed Raghvendra Awasthi as the Director General of Police in Meghalaya after SB Singh retired from office.

In a notification the Home department said Awasthi would take charge of the office of the DGP apart from being the DGP Civil Defence and Home Guards. Awasthi is a 1985 batch IPS officer.

The State Government has sent a list of names to the Union Public Service Commission. A panel of the UPSC would return three names to the State Government out of which the State Government would be free to choose one as the DGP.
