New Darrang SP interacts with media

MANGALDAI, Aug 19 - �The services of the mediapersons is similar to the service of a policeman. Both cannot serve the society ignoring each other. So it is very important for the society that both utilise their energies in a positive direction and some point merge with each other,� said Sunil Kumar, an officer of the Indian Police Service of the 2007 batch, while interacting with mediapersons in his office chamber recently after taking over as the 22nd Superintendent of Police of Darrang district.

Sunil Kumar had earlier served as the Superintendent of Police in Nagaon and Kokrajhar districts and also served as the Senior Superintendent of Police in CID of Assam Police for short tenure of ten days. He has taken over charge from Vivek Raj Singh, who has been transferred as SP in the CM�s Security wing.

Taking part in the interaction, the senior journalists Bhargab Kr Das , Dulal Deka, Mayukh Goswami , Abdul Khalek brought to the notice of the new SP, many issues relevant to the maintenance of law and order and peaceful atmosphere in the district like insufficient number of police officers, lack of sufficient vehicles for police, running of illegal gambling, illicit transportation and selling of spurious liquor, illegal functioning of mechanised sawmills, traffic congestion in the busy streets of Mangaldai and Kharupetia town, reckless driving along the main roads by some immature drivers, lack of efficiency on the part of a section of traffic policemen, unabated threats to a section of businessmen in Kharupetia area, ineffectiveness of most of the police station level police-public committees etc.

In response to the inputs provided by the mediapersons, the SP assured to take action on all the relevant issues.

On being asked about the authentic reporting on criminal activities, he also made a positive response to arrange a workshop on crime reporting for members of the media fraternity of the district. The Additional Superintendent of Police (HQ) Suman Chakrabarty, Deputy Superintendent of Police (HQ) Deba Ranjan Sarma and Inspector Officer in Charge of Mangaldai Police Station Lohit Chandra Rabha also attended the meeting.
