New building of Aryabhatta Science Centre

KALAIGAON, Oct 1 - The new building of the Aryabhatta Science Centre (ASC) was inaugurated by Udalguri Deputy Commissioner Sadhana Hojai at the Lokapriya Bordoloi Public School campus here recently.

The DC said that only a few blocks in the State were selected by the Assam Science Technology and Environment Council (ASTEC) for construction of science centres and Kalaigaon was the first to be inaugurated in the district.

The Deputy Commissioner also said that the centre at Kalaigaon block had been doing very well in the field of science and technology since its establishment in 2007 by the State Government. She requested the teachers and students to come forward to avail facilities offered by the ASTEC under the Department of Science and Technology.

The new science building has been constructed at a cost of Rs 4 lakh. The DC inspected the instruments in the centre, including the telescope for night sky observation. She also visited an exhibition where schoolchildren displayed various science models.

Earlier, the Udalguri district Inspector of Schools, Nabin Chandra Boro hoisted the flag at 10:30 am. A block-level science-based competition was inaugurated by the Circle Officer of Kalaigaon revenue circle, DN Hazarika at 11 am. Several distinguished teachers and social workers attended the programme.

Atlanta Das of Arunodoi Academy at Tangla, who had scored the highest (94 per cent) marks, besides scoring 100 per cent marks in Mathematics in the last HSLC examination in Udalguri district, was jointly felicitated by the Kalaigaon Revenue Circle Officer and district ASC coordinator, with a gamosa, a book and a citation.

Students from 12 schools took part in the science-based competitions. The winners will participate in the Udalguri district-level ASC competition to be held at Udalguri HS School on October 3.
