New body to support scribes

GUWAHATI, April 15 - The Journalists� Association of Assam (JAA) has decided to launch a foundation to support service security of journalists and promote their professional competence.

A meeting held under the presidentship of DN Chakravartty also set up six regional committees to look after JAA activities across the State.

The JAA also decided to hold a workshop with financial support from the State Information Commission to expose journalists to the latest developments in the realm of world journalism.

A new executive committee was constituted with Chakravartty as president, Anup Biswas as working president, Dalim Phukan as general secretary, Mayukh Goswami and Sanjiv Sarma as vice presidents, Sudip Sarma Choudhury, Pranjal Bardoloi and Paramananda Deka as joint secretaries, Sabyasachi Sarma, Purushuttam Kalita and Govinda Das as organising secretaries, Nripendra Rajbongshi as treasurer and Niren Chandan Goswami as office secretary.
