New Art Players Borgeet competition on Oct 2

GUWAHATI, Sept 9 - New Art Players (NAP), a leading socio-cultural organisation of the State, is organising a Borgeet competition for the sixth consecutive year in memory of its members and popular artistes of yesteryears on October 2 at the Magor Auditorium of Vivekananda Kendra here, a press release stated.

Considering that the Borgeet, created by Srimanta Sankardev and Madhabdev, can help in the development of a true human being endowed with spiritualism and ideal character, the Bina De Memorial Trust and New Art Players started holding a Borgeet competition every year beginning from 2010.

Competitors aged 18 years can take part in the event where they are required to sing a Borgeet of their own choice within 10 minutes. Each participant will be allowed to engage a maximum of four instrumentalists playing the khol, taal, flute and violin or sarinda.

Besides permanent trophies and certificates of merit to be awarded to the best three competitors, there will be cash prizes of Rs 10,000, Rs 7,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively. Further, Rs 1000 each will be awarded to the best four accompanying instrumentalists individually. The last date of joining is September 27.
