GUWAHATI, Oct 19 - Injury hit NorthEast United FC (NEUFC) will face off Chennaiyin FC in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, Sarusajai tomorrow.
The home team is at the bottom of the eight-team table without any point. The NEUFC has lost all their matches so far, including one at home against FC Goa. They have to face an acid test against in form Chennaiyin FC, which has been considered as one of the most attacking team in the league this year.
The host team has been hit hard by injuries to their captain Miguel Garcia, Zambian international Kondwani Mtonga and Boubacar Sanogo, all of who have now been ruled out of the league. Marquee player Simao Sabrosa has joined the team camp today but not sure whether he will be in the starting line-up or not.
Coach Cesar Farias tried to limit the damage with whatever resources available to him but NorthEast have been outplayed in two of their three matches so far. His best hope, though, appears to be Argentine striker Nicolas Velez and Ghanaian forward Francis Dadzie, both of whom have shown glimpses of their quality but not consistently enough to create an impact.
Chennaiyin FC, with two victories in a row after two defeats at the start, is now warming up to take the challenge. Coach Marco Materazzis team looks to be the most complete one with seasoned players in all the departments.
With Colombian striker Stiven Mendoza and Brazilian midfielder Elano Blumer in red-hot form, Chennaiyin will go into this game with full strength.
Elano and Mendoza have combined superbly so far this season to give Chennaiyin FC the edge. Mendoza already has five goals to his credit, three of them created by Elano, while the former Brazilian international and Chennaiyins marquee has himself scored two goals.
