GUWAHATI, Oct 23 - Nicolas Velez did it again for the NorthEast United FC (NEUCF) as the hosts stunned defending champions Atletico de Kolkata 1-0 at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, Sarusajai here on Friday.
The lanky striker helped hosts NEUFC in earning full points for second time in their fifth outings in the Hero Indian Super League-II.
After a dry first session of the eastern Derby, Velez struck the match winning goal in the 76th minute.
Brought in as a substitute to Ghanian striker Francis Dadzie, Velez created the opening for himself through the left flank. He passed the ball to onrushing Sanju Pradhan whose 30-yard shot hit opponent stopper Arnab Mandal and unmarked Velez received the ball off the rebound and beat the Kolkata goalkeeper with a right-footed grounder. This was the second straight defeat for the Kolkata team in the ongoing league after they went down to FC Pune City on Saturday.
