NEUFC face off FC Goa in ISL match today

By Sports Reporter

GUWAHATI, Oct 31 - A close contest is on the cards as hosts NorthEast United FC (NEUFC) square off against FC Goa in their round three match of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Sarusajai here tomorrow.

With four points each in their kitty, both the teams with an unbeaten record this season so far, are raring to go for full points tomorrow.

The hosts are full of confidence after winning their last match against Odisha FC on their home turf. The Highlanders were also in nice form against the defending champions Bengaluru FC at their home ground in the opening match and deservingly played a draw. They would definitely like to carry their previous form in their third outing hoping a sound back-up from the home crowd.

The NEUFC leading striker Asamoah Gyan has shown that his killing instincts are very much intact during the previous matches, however, minor injury problem may trouble him tomorrow. Gyans striking partner Redeem Tlang and deep defender Kai Heerings have been impressive so far. The home team coach Robert Jarni is quite satisfied with the form of the players during two previous matches and is likely to field the same batch tomorrow.

We have a plan for every game and not only Goa. We have played against good teams before that had very fast players. There is a plan. We have to be concentrated and be smart on the pitch, said Jarni when asked about their plan tomorrow.

However, it will be a tough nut to crack as formidable FC Goa has been a dominating side during last five editions and the Highlanders did not enjoy a great record against the Goans.

On the other hand FC Goa also did not win a match here since Sergio Lobera took over in 2017.

FC Goa has started the season with a confident note. They brushed aside Chennaiyin FC in their opening game but had to struggle against Bengaluru FC and had a late penalty from Ferran Corominas to snatch a point.

I was very happy after winning the first match against Chennaiyin FC because the team played very well under difficult situation. We had only three foreign players, some were injured. But the second match was not good for us. We suffered a lot against Bengaluru. But to get one point is good for us against a difficult side. Every game is different and tomorrow I think it will be a difficult match against a very good team, said Lobera.
