GUWAHATI, Feb 15 - The North East Students� Organisation (NESO) and All Assam Students� Union (AASU) have condemned the terror attack in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir on a convoy of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in which 45 jawans were killed.
Hailing the roles played by the personnel of the security forces in protecting the sovereignty and geo-political integrity of the country, both the student bodies paid tribute to the CRPF personnel killed in the incident and extended their sympathies to the bereaved families. The attack was allegedly carried out by a suicide bomber of Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM).
The student bodies have demanded urgent steps for driving away all the fundamentalist forces and illegal Bangla migrants to save Assam from such terror attacks in the days to come. Assam, and, for that matter, any part of the NE region of India, cannot be allowed to be turned into a second Jammu and Kashmir, they said.
While AASU president Dipanka Nath and general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi issued a joint statement in this regard, NESO adviser Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharyya spoke to this newspaper here today.
Bhattacharyya said that in the past, the Government of Assam had announced that the fundamentalist group Hijb-ul-Mujahedeen and other fundamentalist groups are operating in the State. To corroborate its claim, the State government also published photographs of the functionaries of such fundamentalist groups.
But, strangely enough, the government has not initiated any effective step to uproot such fundamentalist groups from Assam.
It is the bounden duty of the State government to uproot all the fundamentalist groups, no matter whether they are Hindu or Muslim groups, along with the illegal Bangla migrants found staying in Assam, irrespective of their religious allegiance, said Bhattacharyya.
