GUWAHATI, Sept 28 - Nepal outfit 3 Star Club stormed into the final of the 64th Bharat Ratna Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi Trophy Football Tournament with a thumping 4-1 victory against Sikkim United FC.
It was a thrilling first semifinal at the Nehru Stadium here today as after completing the regulation 90 minutes with the score line reading 1-1, the Nepal team punched three goals in the extra time.
After a slow and barren first session the momentum of the match went up to a respectable height as the ground became fast with the impact of dew and slight drizzle.
3 Star Clubs Nigerian striker Kayode Ajayi Martin drew first blood in the 67th minute with a firm drive after anticipating a diagonal pass from Bishnu Bahadur Mogor.
It was in the 89th minute that substitute Sonam Tshering volleyed home for the equaliser off a square pass from his captain MD Lepcha.
In the first session of the extra time the Nepal team confirmed their berth in the final scoring two goals. In the 95th minute Martin again hit home off a measured pass from Bijay Dhimal. Now it was Bijoys turn to bang the third goal who anticipated a pass from substitute Bijoy Gurung in the 101st minute. Bijoy Gurung completed the rout in the 115th minute with a solo effort.
The Nepal players displayed superb form in the extra time and forced their Sikkim counterparts to cave in. In the later part they could have netted a couple of more goals but their reluctant strikers did not show enough interest in increasing the margin.
