By Correspondent

SHILLONG, Aug 7 - The North Eastern Hill University Teachers Association (NEHUTA) today joined their counterpart from the rest of the country in a hunger strike here.

The teachers observed the hunger strike in front of the Multi Purpose Convention Auditorium at NEHU Campus and made as many as thirteen demands.

Among other things, the teachers demanded that the University Grants Commission should immediately constitute the 7th Pay Review Committee and Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD).

Addressing the gathering, NEHUTA president Prof V Ruata Rengsi said the UGC should also immediately do away with the Pension Scheme-2004 where teachers appointed after 2014 are deprived of General Provident Fund (GPF).

We dont want this kind of discrimination among the teachers. We want the old and new teachers should get the GPF. Any major policy changes should be worked out in consultation with all stake holders, Prof. Rengsi.

The NEHUTA hunger strike was in response to the nationwide cease work and hunger strike called by the All India Federation of University and College (AIFUCTO) held at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi today, supported by the Federation of Central University Teachers Association (FEDCUTA).
