By The Assam Tribune

GUWAHATI, Sept 21 - Northeast India Federation of Journalists (NIFJ) has expressed grave concern at the brutal murder of Santanu Bhowmik, a young television journalist at Mandwai, 25 km from Agartala, in Tripura on September 20 by miscreants owing allegiance to Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT), a Press release said.

Bhowmik, 27, was hacked to death while covering a road blockade agitation of IPFT, which is demanding a separate State.

NIFJ is shocked that two journalists have been murdered within the last two weeks in India. Earlier, activist journalist from Bengaluru Gauri Lankesh was killed on September 5.

NIFJ demands the government to nab the killers of Bhowmik immediately. NIFJ also demands enactment of a Central law for ensuring safety and security of journalists of the country, the release added.
