NEEPCO, TSECL to ink deal

AGARTALA, July 13 � NEEPCO Chairman cum Managing Director (CMD) PC Pankaj is scheduled to arrive here on July 21 to ink a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd (TSECL) to convert two thermal power projects into combined cycle.

The MoU would be signed in the presence of Tripura Power Minister Manik Dey and top government officials, according to NEEPCO sources.

The plan to convert the Barmura gas thermal power project and Rukhia gas thermal project into combined cycle is aimed at enhancing power generation capacity with the same amount of natural gas.

Power generation of Barmura project would be increased from 42 to 67 MW if it is converted into combined cycle while Rukhia project would generate 35 MW more power if it goes for combined cycle system.

Renovation of the State�s lone hydro power project at Dambur is also part of the plan envisaged by the TSCEL. Power generation of the hydro electric plant will increase to 16 MW from the present 7 MW after the renovation work.

As part of the �understanding�, the NEEPCO will take 50 per cent of the increased power while the State Government will have to pump in Rs 90 crore to implement the joint venture project.

�We are hopeful of sealing the deal on July 21 and this would be beneficial for both TCSCL and NEEPCO�, said a top Power department official.
