NEEPCO plans 400 MW power plant in Tripura

By Correspondent

AGARTALA, Oct 27 - The regional power generation company NEEPCO is ready to establish a 400 MW power plant at Manarchak in Tripuras Sepahijala district.

But it depends on of availability of gas, the main fuel for power generation. The NEEPCO has already placed a proposal for supplying gas to add a 400 MW plant at the existing Manarchak combine cycle power project.

SK Dey, a senior NEEPCO official has placed the demand to ONGCs Director (On-shore) SK Moitra during an interactive session here recently.

Dey explained the background of Manarchak power plant. Initially there was a plan to establish a 500 MW power plant by using gas but later it was reduced to only 101 MW due to shortage of gas.

If ONGC provides the required gas, the NEEPCO is ready to make the investment at Manarchak because the main project was designed to set up a mega plant. Besides, all necessary clearances had been received for Manarchak plant, Dey reportedly told the ONGC authority in the meeting.

OTPC has also sought more gas to add a new unit at Palatana power plant in Gomati district. Satyajit Ganguly, who represented the OTPC in the meeting, has demanded supply of more gas so that another unit could be set up at Palatana. Currently OTPC is producing more than 500 MW power.
