GUWAHATI, July 7 � Adviser to the Prime Minister of India S Ramadorai on Thursday emphasized the need for exploring both the conventional as well as non-conventional avenues of employment and building necessary skill for both kind of job opportunities.
It needs to be mentioned here that earlier on the day Ramadorai had participated in a meeting on �Skill development in Assam� organized by the Labour and Employment Department, Government of Assam.
Addressing mediapersons here, Ramadorai said that all stake holders in the meeting that included the government agencies, non-government organizations and private agencies had agreed that there should be a roadmap for creating employment opportunities in the State.
�Assam is an extremely important State and it has the advantage in certain areas like agro and allied industries, tourism and hospitality, healthcare, etc., and the thrust should be on skill development of the youth,� added Ramadorai pointing out that a mechanism was essential to ensure that the State succeeded in equipping the youths with the requisite skill in a competitive world.
Ramadorai said that skill enhancement will provide the youths opportunities across the globe and observed that the time has come for the young generation to think out of the box and explore new avenues. �The future has a lot of promise in fields like water management, waste management, etc,� he mentioned.
On the other hand, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, who was also present at the press conference, said that the government was concerned at the increasing unemployment in the State and that the proposed skill development council will address all the challenges of generating employment opportunities.
�The only way to address the unemployment situation and poverty is to upgrade the skill of our youths,� said Gogoi, assuring that the government was committed to using the latest technology for boosting every sector and creating more job opportunities.
