Need for special focus on Arunachal: Guv

ITANAGAR, Feb 11 � Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma has emphasised on the need for paying special focus on the border State due to geo-strategic urgency.

Addressing the 46th conference of the Governors at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi today, he pointed out that lack of connectivity not only affects security but also prevents unlocking the huge potential of the State, particularly in hydropower, tourism, agriculture-horticulture and some other sectors.

Inaugurated by President Pranab Mukherjee, the two-day conference of Governors is to discuss issues including (a) security � internal and external with special focus on border security in States sharing international frontiers, (b) financial inclusion, employment generation and employability � making skill development programmes effective, (c) sanitation � achieving the goal of Swachh Bharat by 2019 on Mahatma Gandhi�s 150th birth anniversary and (d) issues relating to Fifth and Sixth Schedule of the Constitution of India and development related issues of North East.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, DoNER Minister Dr Jitendra Singh among others are participating in the meet. The Governor said that in view of the huge infrastructure deficit and strategic urgency, a comprehensive plan for Arunachal needs to be formulated based on a �Vision 2025� perspective of the State Government.
