NE Woman Entrepreneur of the Year award

GUWAHATI, Sept 17 - The 2nd Vasundhara � NE Woman Entrepreneur of the Year (2013-14) Award, instituted by the Guwahati-based Sreemanta Sankar Mission, will be presented at Shillong on September 19.

Assisted by the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong, the award programme will see eight talented women entrepreneurs from the eight Northeastern States being awarded in the State Winners category. One among them will receive the Vasundhara � NE Woman Entrepreneur of the Year (2013-14) Award.

M Rajeshwar Rao, Chief General Manager, Financial Markets Operation Department, Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai, will attend the function as the chief guest.

The Vasundhara � NE Woman Entrepreneur of the Year award programme, instituted in 2014, is meant for exceptional women entrepreneurs with unique business ventures having a strong social commitment, who are selected by a panel comprising eminent personalities related to entrepreneurship and business.

The respective State winners running for the Vasundhara � NE Woman Entrepreneur of the Year (2013-14) Award are Lata Lepcha from Sikkim, Toko Likha Yaram from Arunachal Pradesh, T Jemima Achumi from Nagaland, Moiregthem Muktamani Devi from Manipur, Lalhimpuii Hmar from Mizoram, Sukla Rani Debbarma from Tripura, Queency Thangkhiew from Meghalaya and Kanta Dey from Assam.

�All of these women selected for the award have displayed rare entrepreneurship and uniqueness in their idea and vision. For instance, while T Jemima Achumi of Nagaland has set up a fully automatic meat processing centre with imported machinery from Germany and France, Toko Likha Yaram of Arunachal Pradesh has set up a cold storage at Banderdewa. Moiregthem Muktamani Devi of Manipur produces woollen, knitted shoes and supplies them to the Indian Army and also exports the shoes to countries like the UK, Australia and Korea. Their enterprises are exemplary in the otherwise male-dominated sector of business and industry for which they have been identified and are being honoured,� said Asomee Dutta Baruah, general secretary of Sreemanta Sankar Mission. The Vasundhara � NE Woman Entrepreneur of the Year (2013-14) title winner will receive Rs 25,000, a trophy, a citation and a shawl. The eight State winners will get Rs 10,000, a trophy, a citation and a shawl each.

The SME Division of the State Bank of India, NE Region, has also provided assistance to the award this year.
