NE Tourism Master Plan prepared

SHILLONG, May 21 � A North East Tourism Master Plan has been prepared by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) with financial assistance from the North Eastern Council NEC).

The Master Plan consists of 33 Tourism Circuits in the Northeastern States of which nine circuits have been prioritised for implementation. NEC officials said that the NE States are required to prioritise the tourism-related schemes and projects in accordance with the Tourism Master Plan.

It also said that it would fund the State Level Project Management Agencies (SLPMA) for planning and development of tourism in all Northeastern States according to the Master Plan.

The decision was taken in a meeting held by the NEC in its secretariat here with participants from Northeastern States, MP Bezbaruah and other officials from the Council. Bezbaruah said that there is a need for prioritisation of schemes pertaining to tourism development and related activities according to the Tourism Master Plan.

The NEC has also said that a North East Tourism website may also be developed to provide a single gateway to tourists interested in visiting North East from other parts of the country and abroad. The website should provide the basic information about the tourism destinations, facilities available, tourism circuits, route map and other information to help the tourists plan their vacation. The website will also provide links to the tourism websites of NE States and the Incredible India, Ministry of Tourism website.

Further, the NEC said it would encourage NE States to hold one State Level Festival on fixed dates which can be put up on National Calendar of Ministry of Tourism.
