AIZAWL, Sept 10 - Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla inaugurated a two-day Regional Review Meeting for North Eastern Region on National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke (NPCDCS) here today.

The Review Meeting is being attended by representatives of all the Northeastern States. Speaking at the inaugural programme, the Chief Minister sought the Central Governments attention concerning public health in the region. He also sought special attention for Mizoram due to its peripheral location.

The number of people infected with cancer, diabetes and hypertension is increasing in Mizoram, Lal Thanhawla said, adding, it is necessary to educate the people regarding the diseases that silently take peoples lives.

There are nine National Programmes for NCD, of which NPCDCS is one of the most important because of its being the main cause of deaths in the world.
