GUWAHATI, Dec 30 - The 7th North East Media Sports Festival came to an end with the final match of the Harendra Nath Baruah Memorial Football tournament at the SAI complex here today.

In the football final Gana Adhikar defeated Shillong Press Club 7-6 in tie breaker after a goal less draw. Earlier, in the semifinals, Shillong PC beat The Assam Tribune and Gana Adhikar beat DY 365. Arnold Lanong of the Shillong PC was adjudged best footballer of the championship.

In the closing function, Anjan Sarha, Director of Sports and Youth Welfare; Rajib Prakash Baruah, ADA, Kamrup (M); Gilbertson Sangma, ex international footballer; Dr Anil Kapoor, president, Topcem Cement; Tridib Duvarah, senior officer, OIL; Bishnu Ram Nunisa and Jayanta Das, trophy donors; Lakshmi Nandan Saharia, SDC; Sarmistha Bora, asst commissioner were present as guests along with a host of sportspersons. The Festival was co-sponsored by OIL, ONGC, NRL, LIC, SBI, Topcem Cements, Suryagold Cements, Intex among others.

The other trophy winners: Raismodi Nunisa cricket, champion: DY 365, runners-up: Asomiya Pratidin, best cricketer: Binoy Kalita (DY 365). Arabindo Buragohain Memorial badminton: (Team) champion: Manipur Press Club, runners-up: Prag News. (Individial, man) champion: Bikramjit Singh, runners-up: I Ibobi Singh, (both Manipur PC), (women) champion: Reena Devi, (Manipur PC), runners-up: Aruna Chanu, (Doordarshan). Chess-1st: Saroj Medhi, (Pragjyotish Weelky), 2nd I Ibobi Singh, (Manipur PC), 3rd Debashis Sinha, (The Assam Tribune).
