NE insurgency, illegal migration on agenda

NEW DELHI, Sept 29 - The activities of insurgent groups based in the North-East and the prevention of illegal migration from across the border are on top of the agenda of the meeting between the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB), which will get under way here from tomorrow.

The 43rd Director General Level Border Coordination Conference between the BSF and the BGB will be attended by a 22-member delegation of Bangladesh headed by the Director General, Border Guards Bangladesh, Maj Gen Aziz Ahmed. The 25-member Indian delegation will be headed by the Director General of the BSF, KK Sharma.

Official sources said that during the conference, issues like trans-border crimes, smuggling of cattle, FICN and drugs, activities of Indian insurgent groups based in Bangladesh, prevention of illegal migration, joint efforts for effective implementation of the Coordinated Border Management Plan (CBMP) and confidence building measures would be discussed.

On October 4, the concluding session will be held and the Joint Record of Discussions between the DG of the BSF and the DG of the BGB will be signed.

The last BSF-BGB Border Coordination Conference was held in Dhaka in May this year.
