NE Gorkha Mahotsav at Golai from January 8-11

DIGBOI, Jan 3 - The North-East Gorkha Mahotsav is slated to be held at Golai in Digboi from January 8 to 11 under the banner of the All Assam Gorkha Students� Union (AAGSU) in association with the Bharatiya Gorkha Parisang, Assam Gorkha Sanmelan and Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha along with 13 other Gorkha organisations of the State.

Addressing the media after the laying the �main post� of the mahotsav here recently at the Bhakta Bahadur Pradhan Samanya Khetra, Prem Tamang, the president of the All Assam Gorkha Students� Union underlined the objectives of the festival as �uniting the fragmented Gorkhas across the nation and cementing the bonds to preserve and protect the rich cultures and traditions of the community�. He said that Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal would be conferred with the �Swatantrata Senani Dalbir Singh Lohar Excellence Award� during the celebration on the second day of the event in presence of Rajnath Singh, Union Home Minister, who also has been invited to grace the significant event.

Meanwhile, Suren Phukan, the MLA of Digboi and Bhaskar Sharma, the MLA of Margherita addressing the gathering after laying the �main post� of the event together assured to extend all possible support for the success of the event. Various office bearers and members of the Gorkha student body and other organisations of the community belonging to the central, the district and regional committees were also present during the ceremony.
